Depending on the frequency of episodes most applicants suffering form Colitis can get approved standard or with a rating. A rating is an increase in premium due to health issue. If the Colitis is very severe, or is accompanied with other health issues, for example depression you can be approved with a high rating or a decline.

The best course of action is to provide your insurance broker with as much information as possible on the medical condition, this can include medications, dates of episodes or flare up’s, other medical issues, visits to hospital. The information should be sent in without your name as a general inquiry to all insurance companies to see who would be willing to give you an approval. This allows the applicant to get a good idea if there is a chance to get approved even before they complete the application and medicals. It also allows the client to decide if they want to pursue non medical insurance which has much looser underwriting guidelines. In many cases the recommendation is to do a non medical insurance beforehand as a safety net.
